50 minute lecture: A Brief Overview of Healthcare Reform

  • What do Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA have in common? How do they differ? This lecture discusses how they passed Congress and why similar reforms may be unlikely in the future.

After the lecture, take the exam on The Social Transformation of American Medicine by Paul Starr, Mass course #C59041, 28 credits.

  • You must read the text in advance. You will not be allowed to take the exam otherwise. Available from amazon.com.
  • This Pulitzer Prize winning book by a Princeton sociologist shows how our healthcare system developed in step with American social evolution since Colonial times. Long and heavy but thought provoking and insightful.

The exam takes about 30 minutes each after the lecture. Proctors provided. Graded immediately. You should be finished by about 11:30.
